Presenting your home for sale
Do’s and dont's when presenting your home for sale
Even though it is not easy to look at your home through fresh eyes, it is important that you try and do just this when presenting your home for sale. Remember that you have lived there for quite some time. What you might see is the home full of everything that you have put into it, like memories that you created, renovations that you did and prized possessions that you filled it with. A potential buyer will only see it as a house full of someone else’s stuff.
Owners may look at the objects that hold sentiment to them, but this is necessary to remove these items before presenting your home. One must always remember to understand that the items are leaving the house together with the owner. They are not being erased. However, they need to let buyers see their own experiences , dreams and memories in the home that they potentially want to buy.
Five do’s when presenting your home for sale:
Make sure that the house is squeaky clean.
Make sure that the outside, especially the entrance and the front yard is clean.
Take away all the rubbish bins from the front of the house and make it look neat.
Declutter, declutter, declutter.
Start packing as soon and as early as possible.
Five dont’s when presenting your home for sale:
There is always something to do. Don’t do nothing.
Don’t make potential buyers walk around your clutter.
Do not put your alcohol collection on display.
Do not put out snacks. They are not coming to socialize.
Do not burn scented candles. Not everyone likes the same smells.

Promoting Portland: An Industry View on Investing in Portland
Learn why many think that Portland is the heartbeat of the nation’s economy at an investment seminar featuring some of the region’s business leaders later this month.
Promoting Portland: We would like to promote Portland and explore why the coastal hideaway has been pinpointed as one of australias hot spots.
Industry leaders including Forever Homes owner Michael Hein, Stone Business Advisors director Rodney Stone, HBH Legal property conveyancer Robert Baker, Seaview Real Estate director Allan Barrett, and Westpac Portland local business banker Shaun Lovell will explain what services they have to offer for people interested in the property market at this free event on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the Quest Apartments.
“We will be joined by McDonald’s Portland owner Bernie Knight who will explain why he pinpointed Portland as a place to invest while Glenelg Shire Council economic development and tourism manager Gary Bebbington will provide a development update,” Mr Hein said.
“There is a lot of dollars worth of development being spent across the Portland area. Portland has developed as a property hot spot because of potential growth with such things as the tuna fishing, growing tourism industry with cruise ships, the Port of Portland deep sea port is an export hub from woodchips, grain and mineral sand to live export. This is on top of the energy industry growth with gas fired power stations and wind energy. It’s all setting us up with the opportunity for growth and employment.
“We have so much to offer. Portland is affordable, we would like to see a growing economy with a great lifestyle. We want Portland people to come and learn what we have to offer and why they should be interested in investing here.”
Mr Hein said the event was a great chance to talk one-on-one with local Business owners who will happily answer any questions.
“This is an open invitation to local people looking to get educated, perhaps invest and learn what is happening. Portland continues to show oportunity, and we think there is a lot more growth to come,” Mr Hein said.
Secure a seat at the investment seminar by calling Katie at Stone Business Advisors on 5523 2287. Spots are limited for this free event. RSVP by Thursday, September 8, 2011. Proudly hosted by Quest Apartments, 66 Julia Street, Portland

Tuna Frenzy hits Portland
Fishing mania has hit Portland with thousands of keen anglers hitting the water chasing tuna.
Almost 700 boats launched over the weekend, with more lining up throughout the week to catch the prized Southern Blue Fin Tuna.
Police had to be brought in to direct traffic as boats lined up for hundreds of metres in Portland’s CBD, vying to be the next to make the big catch.
Portland Bait and Tackle’s Chris Hall said many boats were staying close to the shoreline catching good sized tuna.
“They are coming from everywhere. We’ve had them down from Melbourne, the Wimmera, Horsham, all over the state, plus we’ve had some come from as far as Sydney and Adelaide,” he said.
“They are staying close in and catching tuna about the 10-15kg weight. Off the shelf they are catching dolphin fish and albacore.”
He said on Sunday alone up to 400 boats were out, transforming the foreshore into a maze of trailers, anticipating more will be arriving in the coming weeks.
The tuna season is expected to continue through to July.
Each weekend accommodation has been booked out across Portland by anglers with many booked week’s in advance to secure a bed.
Portland Seaview Holiday Stays director Allan Barrett said many of the houses had room to accommodate the biggest of boats.
“We have a lot of homes on our books that have room to park a boat, with a price range that can suit all budgets,” he said.
